RP drama is inevitable. However, this doesn't mean disputes can't be handled civilly between players. If players are unable to end a dispute between themselves, they should contact the mods via [mod email] or the dropbox.
Individuals that start drama will only be given one warning before being dismissed from the game on the second offense. The same is true of those who are found to be participating in and/or encouraging drama. There will be no exceptions - drama will not be tolerated here.
Players need to be sure they have a firm idea of their character's personality and the game's premise before applying. While the mods do not assume to know how to portray your character, players should make sure they're staying in character over the course of the game. Character progression is natural and encouraged, but swinging from one extreme to another is not.
Likewise godmodding is also not allowed. There is a difference between Out of Character Knowledge and In Character Knowledge. When in doubt, please check with the character's player.
If any of the above is seen happening , the player will receive one warning before being removed from the game.
Both spelling and grammar are important, so looking over your post before hitting submit never hurts. Most modern browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Internet Explorer 10+) have an inline spell checker already installed. With this, your browser will point out misspelled words as you type, à la Microsoft Word. This should successfully prevent a majority of spelling issues.
The mods are not grammar or spelling nazis, after all everyone makes mistakes and nobody is perfect. However, if it seems to be a common occurrence with your posts a warning will be given. Likewise, the mods will not require British spellings, but a general guide to Britpicking is available [here]. (and one of the mods is a) british, b) more than happy to offer advice. or something less zombiebrain sounding)
Due to the nature of the game, OC characters are allowed and encouraged. However, players cannot bring in OC family members of canon characters without the canon characters already in play. IE, one of the canon Potters (Harry, Lily, or James) must be in the game before an OC can be applied for. If you would like a jumping off point, check out the list of [wanted] characters.
Players are allowed apply for up to 2 characters at any one time. The current character limit is 6. Active players may apply for 1 additional character per month upto a total of 9 at the mod's discretion. If a player has a character that failed activity check for the month, another character cannot be applied for until all characters have reached activity.
Please avoid playing two characters that would interact regularly, such as relatives or people in the same occupation (e.g. two healers or quidditch players).
In an effort to keep gender balance and to adequately represent the ethnic makeup of Britain, if a player decides to apply their 5th or more characters, the player must have at least 1 non-caucasian character and a mixture of male and female characters.
Special ability characters (werewolves, vampires, metamorphmagi, veelas, seers) are not restricted at this time. When applying for a character with these abilities, the mods reserve the right to ask for some additional information outlining the extent of these additional abilities.
Players are expected to complete two pieces of activity: One Journal and One Thread.
In order for journals to count, they must have at least some part that is open for public reply, and we must be able to see that you made an attempt to reply to all comments made on the journals.
The thread requirement can be fulfilled in one of three ways:
Completed scene with another player done in Google Docs.
Scene done in the RPG community with at least five comments from both players (the starter counts as one).
Completed narrative of at least 200 words.
If a thread is still in progress, we need to see that players are still actively tagging it. Otherwise, there needs to be a clear ending for all threads used for activity.
For each additional piece of activity you complete in the month, you will now earn half an activity voucher. For instance, a character that ends the month with five pieces of activity will receive 1.5 activity vouchers. These count as 1.5 free spaces; the half is useless until it becomes a whole. These will carry over from month to month and do not expire until used.
Caveat: If you use a narrative to fulfill your thread requirement for a character, you may not earn any additional activity vouchers using a narrative. The 200 word narratives are there for when you don't feel like you have a full scene in a character. If you do more than one narrative, but no thread/scene, it does tell us otherwise. Narratives are an option because we know that threading isn't always possible, but we want to see what your characters are up to!
The following can be used as extra activity:
Journals with conversations in the comments (includes journals that ward just one person).
Threads that meet the above requirements.
Comment wars on journals or owls that reach at least five comments per character.
Please keep up with replies to other characters' journals and threads. Players found only posting journal entries and not interacting with other players will receive a warning.
Activity checks will occur on the last week of every month. A post will be put up on the OOC community where players can offer submit their activity. Players who do not reply without making prior arrangements by the end of the activity check will fail for the month and be unable to pick up another until all activity has been met. Characters who fail the activity check for two months in a row will be removed from the game. Players are able to reapply if they would like, but if the character is removed for a second time then they will not be able to apply again.
To ensure everyone gets the interaction they're looking for, we ask that scenes/threads/docs are started within 24 hours of suggesting and agreeing upon doing them. Try not to take longer than a day to tag. If you're going to take longer, contact your storyline partner (SLP) and let them know. Communication is key, whether you're gently nudging someone about a tag or letting someone know that you'll be a little slow. If something happens and you don't hear from your SLP/they don't reply to your nudge email, contact the mods and we'll figure it out.
We all have our own things going on. We can’t be on the game all the time, and are all aware of that. So communicate, and trust that you're not being a nuisance by reaching out.
Hiatuses are allowed for up to one week at a time. A hiatus lasting for more than a week (as well as constant hiatuses) could result in a player's dismissal from the game. However, this will be dealt with case-by-case (constantly being busy with school is a lot different than not having access to a computer for a certain length of time). If a player needs additional time, exceptions can be made. Essentially, please don't disappear.
Slash, het, and femmeslash are all permitted. [insert attitudes of 2002 wizarding world towards LBGTQ]
Also, bear in mind that character relationships need to be born of an agreement between both players, as well as believable. If players seem to have joined solely for shipping purposes (and are disregarding other parts of the game for it) or are forcing certain ships on other players they will only receive one warning before being dismissed from the game.
The mods ask that players vary the ships shared between other players. Meaning Player A should not solely have romantic lines with Player B, try to have lines with Player C and D as well. This is an effort to promote interaction between all players and to avoid cliques of players forming.
Due to the AU nature of the game, some liberties will be allowed for PB choice, such as eye color, or height. Because wizards age at a different rate than muggles, flexibility is allowed, but please try to be reasonable. Someone in their late twenties/early thirties isn’t going to pass for someone in their late forties/early fifties.
Plots should be created with the pervasive storyline in mind and the RPG should not be used solely one purpose (shipping, for example). The mods understand that everyone comes to a game with specific ideas in mind, but ask that players keep an open mind.
Major/triggering plots (including, but not limited to, death, rape, abuse, and pregnancy) should be run by the mods. The mods ask that if a plot could affect a large number of characters that a courtesy post be placed in the OOC comm.
Currently the only subject that is banned is incest.
